Publication News: "The Girl Who Fell to Earth"

 308 words v1

Just a quick note to say that one of my short stories,"The Girl Who Fell to Earth", has been published in 308 Words!

308 Words is a collection of flash fiction stories (308 words long, minus the title) published on Tumblr by 308 Press. You can find more about it here and here; it's an incredibly cool new press and I couldn't be happier to see my story up there.

"The Girl Who Fell to Earth" is a flash fiction fairy tale with a bit of magical realism thrown in. I carried the basic idea around for a long time before pounding it out in one afternoon--less because I was hit with some huge surge of creativity and more because I felt like I'd go crazy if I didn't write something. It's a pinch of astronomy mixed with a bunch of weirdness, and I hope you'll enjoy it.

  2. Congratulations! Tumblr lit mags are truly fantastic. Just read it and especially love the portable stars -- do let me know if you ever expand on this!

    1. Thank you! Turning this into something longer would be lots of fun, so I just might try to one of these days. The portable stars came as a bit of a surprise--I'd had a different ending in mind--and I think I might have been subconsciously inspired by the Perry Como "Catch a Falling Star" song.

  3. How awesome! Congrats!

And your story is fantastic. I love how real the characters friendship seems, and then how you mix in the enchanting mystery… It just drew me in. I loved it!

    1. Thank you! They're parts of it that I'm a little unsure about, but I decided to send it off anyway, and I'm glad I did!
