This year already promises to be really hectic, so I’m keeping things simple:
Write more short stories
Pretty self-explanatory. For now my ideas are mostly fantasy, but I’d love to branch out and try some other genres--sci-fi, contemporary, or maybe even historical fiction. I also want to quit stressing over publication and enjoy the actual writing process more.
Start a longer project
At first my goal was to finish a longer project this year, but then I realized I’d have a hard enough time starting one. So my resolution is to begin working on an idea that I actually like (no matter how much it scares me) and stick with it.
I’ve never officially made New Year’s resolutions before, especially writing-related ones. I’m a huge procrastinator, even when it comes to goals I want to meet. But I’m excited to begin working on new stories, and I hope that 2016 will be as good (if not better) than 2015!
What are your goals for the new year?
Ooh, both of those sound like good goals to grow with! I look forward to hearing about them if you update us during the year. :D
ReplyDeletePosting them on the blog seemed like good motivation--hopefully it'll force me to actually meet them. Thanks for the encouragement!
DeleteThese both seem like great goals for you, and I wish you the very best of luck with them! Starting longer projects (or really, any kind of project) can certainly be tough, but once it's begun it can also be quite rewarding, so here's me cheering you on! :)
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, this year I don't have a big list of goals for the new year; I have one or two things I want to do in 2016, but not a lot set in stone right now. Guess I'll just have to see where the year takes me!
I hope you reach your goals this year! It's great to keep things simple and leave room for spontaneity. Here's to both of us having a wonderful and productive 2016 :)
DeleteHow exciting! You see, I've always admired writers!! Something about their fearlessness is so inspiring! You go girl; get those ideas down on paper!
ReplyDeleteFor me, I hope to get back on track with a couple of things: my faith, my health/fitness, discovering + cultivating some of my passions, and just enjoying life to the fullest!
It was so nice stopping by,
Kianna Rose
Those all sound like great goals! Physical & spiritual health are two things I need to get on track with as well. It was great to meet you--thanks so much for commenting!
DeleteGood luck with this! Personally I really want to do more short stories as well, because I kind of suck at those.
ReplyDeleteShort stories are tricky...sometimes I can turn out decent ones, sometimes I can't. But I do love writing them, even though it can be painful.
DeleteThose are fantastic goals! After NaNo, my motivation dropped a lot, so right now my goal is just to finish my book by the end of January! (made mostly out of desperation, but I'm hoping to achieve it anyway)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a great goal! I've loved hearing about your book on your blog; I really hope you finish it soon. My motivation's dropped, too, especially since the weather where I live has been so gloomy.
DeleteYep, I've been at that point where I just got tired of submitting, submitting, submitting. Especially since my true love, I think, is novels, but most submissions were short stories and took time away from my WIPs. I think it's important for us to just enjoy writing and think about publication later :)
ReplyDeleteI really want to focus on starting a longer project this year, and just more on enjoying writing in general. And submitting can become incredibly draining, especially since I have a tendency to latch all my self-worth on whether I'm a published writer or not. Like you said, it's more important to just enjoy writing.
DeleteThese are some great goals. I hope I'll eventually get to read some of the (surely wondrous) results! ^^
ReplyDeleteThank you! Things have been pretty hectic since I started college, but I'm hoping to get back to writing soon!
