Taking Stock: February 2016

Rainy day in the city:

Brambly Hedge by Jill Barklem my fave. Kids books. I still have them all. X:

Ready for: Spring. The weather’s been a little warmer for the past couple of days and I’m praying it sticks.
Studying: Sociology, Math, Composition, and Atlantic World History--all tough but interesting.
Making: A commonplace book for my favorite quotes. For now it’s a pile of hole-punched pages, but I plan on binding them together once they’re all filled up.
Liking: Long waits in the library.
Visiting: Washington D.C. The Air and Space Museum and the The Museum of the American Indian.
Deciding: To write what makes me happy, not what I think I should be writing.
Reading: Lots of good books but not many great books. My favorites this month were Passager (a story by Jane Yolen where Merlin’s a feral child abandoned in the woods; you really should read it), Career of Evil, The Four Seasons of Brambly Hedge, A Year Down Yonder, and After Iris.
Listening: To "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers and "In a Big Country" by Big Country.
Watching: Crimson Peak. Creepy, gruesome, and very, very Gothic.
Rewatching: Doc Martin seasons 3-4, Supernatural season 2.
Hoping: To blog more in March, but I’m not making any promises!
Wishing: For a house by the ocean where I could write and read and go for long walks and be cute and quirky and never worry about anything.
Feeling: Hopeful and excited. I feel like February was a month for recharging, and March will be the month for getting things done. (I always feel like this. But this time I really mean it [fingers crossed].)

    1. Thank you!! I'm becoming more and more obsessed with Brambly Hedge every day :) Seriously, where were these books in my childhood? I know I would have loved them. I'm glad to be discovering them now, though.

  2. Here's hoping that March is, in fact, a getting-things-done month. I could use that too. :D

  3. Yes to warmer weather! It keeps turning back cold and it's ridiculous because oh my goodness, it's spring. And yes to a commonplace book for favourite quotes! I kinda want to make one but just couldn't find the energy to. And yes to getting things done in March!!

    1. So far the weather's been sticking--we've had a few rainy days but nothing too cold. The "official" first day of spring isn't until March 20th. I can't wait!

  4. Yay for spring! The weather in my corner of New England was very spring-like today, too--I sat outside on the front step for a little while and read in the sun, it was lovely. I'm quite looking forward to more of these days as spring approaches. :)

Your decision to write what you want sounds like a great one, and I wish you the very best with it! (Those pesky "shoulds" get in the way of everything, don't they?!)

And as for a beach house for reading and writing and long walks and being quirky, I TOTALLY GET THAT. For years it was one of my fondest dreams to someday be an author and live in a beach house. Right now, though, I'm in the mood to be even quirkier than that and want to live in one of those eco-friendly tiny houses someday. And, seriously? I totally feel like I might just do it when I move out, because why the heck not?

I hope you have a lovely and productive March! <3

    1. I've been rewatching Doc Martin lately, which is set in Cornwall, one of the most gorgeous places ever, so that's re-ignited my desire to live buy the beach--in an English-style cottage, if I can manage it. I've seen photos of eco-friendly houses, and some of them are absolutely beautiful.
Thanks, and I hope you have a fantastic March as well!
