Spring Break

Susan Branch. I am reading this book right now.:

Spring break is almost here, which means a lot of wonderful things, including sleeping in, making a dent in my pile of unread books, and binge-watching Netflix, because GUESS WHAT’S PREMIERING ON THE 18TH? (Daredevil season 2. I’m just the tiniest bit excited about this.)
Here are some of the ways I’m going to enjoy spring break:

Read A Fine Romance by Susan Branch
I checked this out on Joni’s recommendation--it’s a hand-lettered, illustrated travel journal of a trip to England (starting with a six-day cruise on the Queen Mary 2 Ocean Liner!) and it’s so charming and beautiful that I get inspired to journal more just looking at it. (Sadly, my journals look nothing like Susan Branch’s.)

Cook Something
I’m not sure what yet, but I’d love to buy the ingredients for something and make it on my own. A few weeks ago I made herb-cheddar biscuits from an out-of-the-box mix and they were delicious, so if all else fails I can fall back on those.

Stay on Top of Homework
There’s a lot I’ll still need to get done during break, but most of it isn’t too hard. My two main assignments are to take notes for a research paper and work on a proposal for my final English paper. (I wrote my first two on The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and Tina Fey’s movie Mean Girls. This time I’m thinking about writing about Crimson Peak.)

Doodle/Knit/do Something Crafty
I REALLY need to finish that scarf.

Do you guys have any plans for spring or spring break?

    1. Travel sounds like a wonderful way to spend spring break! I just have one more day of classes to go before I'm done for a whole week. I really can't wait!

  2. OOOOH, these are fabulous plans. I like to try recipes now and then too -- last week I made a potato/pasta/cheese/mushroom dish that I basically made up, and I'm planning to try some chocolate snacks soon. And YES FINISH THE SCARF.

    1. My sister and I were thinking about baking shortbread, which is delicious, and I found a recipe for this thing called onion pudding which looks a LOT better than it sounds. Your dish sounds really good!

  3. I tell you, Alex, you and me... We're like this- *points frantically back and forth between us*
I'm glad you liked the book! I've read a couple others by Branch since, but "Fine Romance" is definitely my favorite. The trip sounds like a dream- and her journaling of it is indeed inspiring!
Sounds like you have a fun week lined up! Best wishing baking/cooking, creating and watching awesome stories. ^^

    1. I really, really, REALLY liked it--luckily, my library has a couple more books by her, which I know I'll end up checking out. But I'd never have heard of it without your recommendation. :)

I've already been watching and reading some wonderful stories, and I'm still trying to decide what to cook...I hope your spring is getting off to a good start!

  4. Does spring break in england even exist? or is it just an American thing? OR, is it the equivalent of Easter here? hmmm..i'm not entirely sure. But if it is. all I plan to do is work - my exams are a few weeks after Easter and they mean a LOT and I am NOT ready (but hey..totally not stressed..*cough* *flails*)...AKSJHDGBNJZAKDHFGBKXZ HELP.

I do want to learn to cook properly though - hopefully in summer after my exams..

    1. I have a ton of homework to finish up on, and yep, it's not even the TINIIEST bit stressful...oh, well. As far as I can tell, spring break is more of an American thing, but don't take my word for it--I'm no expert. I do hope you have a lovely spring, with or without a break!

Cooking (at least with simpler recipes) isn't all that hard, but finding time to cook definitely is.

  5. I hope you enjoy your spring break!! Isn't it funny how sometimes just seeing/reading something creative makes you want to be creative yourself? Shame that, like you, most of my journals aren't like Susan Branch's (I haven't even read the book and I already know they're not ;).

Agh, Crimson Peak--part of me almost wants to watch it because Mia Wasikowska and also the historical setting, but I don't have a lot of tolerance for horror movies, so... *shrugs* What did you think of it?

Good luck with the scarf! You should post a photo when you finish it. :)

    1. So far spring break has been great--though it's funny how yoy think you'll have tons of free time and end up with even less than usual. :)

I personally really liked Crimson Peak, and if it helps any I thought it was a lot less scary than the other del Toro movie I've seen, Mama. That one is very good too, but much more of a straight horror movie. Crimson Peak is really a mystery/Gothic romance with some horror elements. Still pretty creepy though, especially the first couple minutes!

Thanks! I knitted a couple rows today, which (sadly) is more than I've done on it all year so far!
