Happy Things

 :
via
Stealing a page from Olivia’s book today.

   1./ The first frost.
   2./ Gray days.
3./ Buckets of extra-buttery movie theater popcorn.
4./ Heading home after a day of classes.
5./ “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys  and “Forever Young" by Bob Dylan.
6./ Picking up books at the library.
7./ Rain. (Rainy days in October can be beautiful. Alternatively, they can be miserable—but the ones around here have mostly been beautiful.)
8./ Friday night movies with friends.
9./ Knitting. (Yep, still working on that scarf. Note to self: next time, use bigger needles.)
   10./ Fresh apple cider.
11./ Alphabear. (Thanks for the recommendation, Joni!)

In other news: this semester has been tough, and I’ve got to admit that I’m glad it’s winding down. I have a couple of ideas/newsworthy stuff for future posts—hopefully those will be going up soon. And I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween!

  1. We just recently got our first frost as well. A part of my delights in the magic-glitter of it... while the other part cringes at the coming cold. Ha!
I need to get me some fresh HOT apple cider. My local fruit farm also makes THE BEST apple cider donuts that I've yet to take part in this year.
And yay for adorable word puzzles! ^^

    1. Winter is sort of a mixed bag--I love feeling cozy, but I also hate having to walk across campus in the freezing cold.
Thanks for "introducing" me to Alphabear. It's incredibly cute and lots of fun. :)

  2. Yes & yes & yes to October being a difficult month. It feels some days that the darkness is overwhelming, but at least there are these small lights, no? I do love me a good large bucket of extra-buttery popcorn + grey days accompanied by soft shining music + adorable word games (I freely admit that I have been rather obsessed with Alphabear as well - I'm not one for video games usually, but this is such fun!). Thank you infinitely for sharing this with us, dear Alex, and here's hoping that November brings more of these tiny lovelies for us to savour.

    1. Alphabear is so cute and addictive. November is already shaping up to be a brighter month, I think--I've been writing and reading more, and trying to find the right balance between completely stressing out over schoolwork and relaxing, but still getting it all done. Thank you so much for commenting--I hope you have a lovely November!

  3. This is a very happy list. It made me smile, at least. I don't know how gray skies, frost and rain are so appealing to me, but I'm glad you agree they have a certain magic to it. Looking forward to the exciting future posts! :)

    1. Hey Jo! There's something so moody but cozy about rainy autumn days. Now that the semester's winding down, I kind of want to just hole up in my bedroom, read, and drink hot chocolate. Plus, the end of a semester is pretty magical all by itself. Thanks for commenting!

  4. Hey there!

You knit? That's pretty cool :) I do...once in awhile. Every winter I usually attack a few projects. Last winter I made a bazillion wash cloths then got stuck on a more complicated hat pattern. Also, wrist warmers which have been my lifesaver. What kind of stuff do you like to knit?

Nothing is more cozy than hot cider :)

Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment on my blog. I really appreciate it.

    1. I'm totally with you on knitting only once in a while--I usually start one project around winter and then take months and months to finish it. I've knitted scarfs, washcloths, baby blankets, one hat, and wristlets. Honestly, I probably like scarfs the best, since they're so simple, but hats can be fun, too.
Thanks for the comment--and I loved reading through your blog. :)
